The Approach
What the Research Suggests
Noah Text® is a text format designed to reduce decoding load by making syllable chunks and long vowels visible. Reported studies and pilots describe gains in accuracy, fluency and comprehension, with improvement that can transfer back to plain text reading.
The research base is developing. Current studies report promising results, particularly for readers with dyslexia, English language learners and striving readers in grades 4 through 8.

Noah Text® keeps standard spelling but makes patterns visible with syllable chunks inside longer words and long vowels marked with a visual cue. The goal is to reduce the decoding effort required for fluent reading on comprehension and meaning.

The following studies have examined Noah Text® in structured research and pilot contexts.
Pilot Study: Middle School Students with Reading Challenges
RITES study with short, intensive usage period
This pilot examined Noah Text® with middle school students identified as having reading challenges. Students used Noah Text® materials intensively over a short study period.
Reported Findings
- Fluency gains, including in plain-text reading after the study period
- Results suggest transfer potential back to standard text format
Randomized Controlled Trial: Incarcerated women with Reading Disabilities
Michigan State University collaboration with multi-month study period
This randomized controlled trial examined Noah Text® with adult women with reading disabilities in a correctional setting. The treatment group used Noah Text® materials over a multi-month period; the control group did not.
Reported Findings
- Treatment group reported significant gains compared to control group
- Improvements observed in reading accuracy and fluency measures
- Gains noted across the multi-month period of Noah Text® use
